5 ways to use Craft Sugars
Flavored sugars are not a new concept by any means but I figured out how to make them and then I was left standing in my kitchen wondering what in the world I would use them for. After some internet sleuthing and time spent pondering in my kitchen, I made a quick list of ways to use craft sugars so you don’t have to stand in your kitchen wondering what to do with your fancy new sugars.
1. Sprinkle in your drinks
Adding craft sugars to your coffee or tea is a simple way to add a little bit of flavor. Keep in mind that these flavors will be subtle, not like pouring flavored creamers into your coffee. These work best when your drinks are still warm to help dissolve the sugars into the liquid.
2. Baking
If you are a baker, infused sugars are helpful for adding those finishing touches to your baked items. These pair really well with scones, cookies, pies, and cupcakes. Sugars can be added prior to baking or as a finishing touch once your baked goods are done. See an example of them used on scones here.
3. Top it off
Yogurt, toast, or ice cream, all of these things can benefit from a little sprinkle of a craft sugar.
4. Garnish
If you’re a fan of making cocktails or mocktails, infused sugars help elevate your drink. Use it as a sugar rim or to add another dimension of flavor to your drink. Note that adding sugars to a cold drink will result in the sugars settling on the bottom. The infused flavors of the sugar will slowly seep out but the sugar crystals will likely remain on the bottom of the glass unless some vigorous shaking is involved.
5. Eat it
Do I actually suggest just eating craft sugars? Not really. However, can confirm they are very tasty by themselves. Almost like an adult Pixie Stix.
